DOCTORAL PROGRAMS

The Doctoral Program is designed to prepare students for professional leadership in the field of management, and commerce. The objective of the Ph.D. program is to facilitate research entrepreneurial skills and orientation of doctoral scholars. It is designed to promote the culture of research entrepreneurship wherein researchers are encouraged to explore themselves, ask questions, actively seek peers’ feedback, build conviction broader level Ph.D. Program aims at contributing towards XIM University’s endeavour towards Sustainability, Entrepreneurships and Analytics (SEA) by understanding those issues which are fundamental to the research enquiry, and have a linkage with organizations, institutions, economy, society, and environment.

DOCTORAl PROGRAM (FULL-TIME)

Overview:

This program is intended to prepare full-time participants for research and teaching positions both within and outside academia. Our doctoral scholars are expected to be innovative knowledge builders in their respective fields and capable of generating new knowledge and be the great new thinkers for our world.

The scholars are expected to develop a deep understanding in the areas of research selected by them. They also get a structured exposure to a range of topics, develop various professional skills, and participate in academic and other activities.

Eligibility:

The doctoral program at XIM University is open to Indian as well as international students. Candidates need to satisfy the following criteria to be considered eligible for doctoral studies in select schools at XIM University, Bhubaneswar as indicated below. For information about schools please visit the XIM University, Bhubaneswar homepage www.xim.edu.in . Candidates not meeting the eligibility criteria need not apply to the school in concern.

PERTAINING TO CANDIDATES HAVING A BACHELOR’S DEGREE AS THE HIGHEST DEGREE:

Candidates seeking admission to a school under XIM University after a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s degree with Research or equivalent (BE/BTech, BSc-Agriculture and Allied Sciences etc.) should have a minimum of 75 percentage of marks in aggregate or equivalent CGPA in a 10 point scale.

PERTAINING TO CANDIDATES HAVING A MASTER’S OR EQUIVALENT DEGREE:

Candidates seeking admission after a master’s or an equivalent degree need to meet the school-specific requirements as in the table below

In all these cases, the applicants also need to secure at least 55% marks in aggregate in the Master’s (or an equivalent) level. In case this score is available on a letter-grade system or grade-point system, the University expects a minimum equivalent of 55% marks in aggregate as per the awarding University’s norms for conversion to a percentage.

How To Apply

Applicants have to fill up the online application form separately for XIM University programs at: www.xim.edu.in Upon successfully filling the online application form and paying the application processing fee, the applicant will receive the confirmation by email.

Selection Process:

Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their academic records and SOPs. The shortlisted candidates will be required to appear for XIM Research Aptitude Test (X-RAT), Subject Test (if applicable), Presentation, and Personal Interview

as per the modes decided and communicated. Details about X-RAT is available separately on our website. Candidates who have qualified UGC NET-JRF within three years (calculated from the date of issuance of the respective scores and the last date of application to the program) will be exempted from X-RAT. However, they will take part in the other selection processes as listed above. The coursework for the selected candidates is expected to commence from June 2023.

X-RAT Guidelines :

X-RAT is the Research Aptitude Test conducted by XIM University as a part of the Ph.D admission process. The test is used to assess some basic skills considered essential for researchers, namely writing ability, verbal ability and comprehension, reasoning, and quantitative aptitude. The total marks for the test are 100 and the total time allocated is 2 hours and 30 minutes. The test is conducted in XIM University.There is no need to apply separately for X-RAT. Candidates will be required to appear this test as a mandatory requirement of the Ph.D admission process.The test consists of the four sections as indicated above. The questions are subjective and objective types. An X-RAT

Subject Test:

Schools shall be conducting a subject test (for domain candidates only) which the shortlisted candidates may need to appear. Details on the test will be communicated to applicants separately.

Candidate Categories:

The candidates who will be offered admission into the doctoral program will be classified in two categories:

Duration of the Program:

The Ph.D. students are expected to complete the program in 4 years after doctoral registration (please refer to the table below). It may be extended with due approvals.

Doctoral Program Structure:

Doctoral Coursework:

The coursework is organized in three phases (Phase-I, Phase-II, Phase-III). The coursework will broadly involve the following courses as given in the table below. Additionally, workshops will be organized as per requirements.

Comprehensive Qualifying Examination:

The Comprehensive qualifying examination will be conducted after the successful completion of doctoral course work. After successful completion of the comprehensive qualifying examination, the student will be allowed to proceed to the Thesis Phase.

Thesis Phase:

This phase will involve working on the thesis proposal till final submission of thesis. The scholar is conferred the title as given below on successful completion of all the requirements of the thesis.

Any extension of time beyond the expected completion duration as noted above will be based on review of progress status of the scholars in concern. Students failing to comply with the program requirements will be de-registered. A student has to meet all the requirements of the Doctoral Program according to prescribed standards and no exemption will be granted for any reason whatsoever.
